Black River
The Black River is one of Lorain’s greatest natural assets, winding through the city and emptying into the vast waters of Lake Erie. It offers residents and visitors a unique blend of recreation, scenery, and history. Whether you're interested in paddling through quiet stretches of water or exploring the bustling harbor front, the Black River provides countless opportunities for adventure and relaxation.
The river’s path offers scenic views of downtown Lorain, wooded riverbanks, and local wildlife. Stand-up paddleboarding is also growing in popularity on the river, especially in the summer months when the water is calm and inviting.
Jet skiing and powerboating are common in the open stretches leading into the lake, especially around the mouth of the river near the historic Lorain Lighthouse. Fishing is another draw, with anglers lining the banks or casting from boats for species like bass, perch, and catfish throughout the warmer months.
This public riverfront park hosts concerts, festivals, and community events throughout the year, including the well-known Rockin’ on the River summer concert series. The riverwalk trails surrounding the Landing area are ideal for walking, jogging, and biking, with benches, green spaces, and scenic overlooks offering quiet places to relax.
